Jean-Baptiste Meier | Operations and Renewable Assets Director (APAC)

Can you give us a glimpse into your day-to-day life at Longitude?

My day-to-day work consists of identifying opportunities and developing Longitude’s resource capacity to execute projects in the renewable energy space. Based in Singapore, Longitude’s Asia Pacific headquarters, I am also responsible for overseeing the execution of our renewable energy projects for Longitude in the wider continent, as well as drawing connections with expertise and service offerings from the wider ABL Group and our sister company OWC. In addition, I am also managing the operations for the Longitude APAC resources and disciplines.

What inspired you to join your profession?

During my upbringing in the French Alps, I felt drawn to ocean-related works, which steered my educational journey towards offshore engineering. This propelled me into my initial career in the offshore oil and gas industry, before transitioning my skillset into the offshore renewable sector with an ambition to contribute to the energy transition. Starting my renewable energy journey with Longitude, I furthered my knowledge with a major offshore wind EPCI player before returning to Longitude to develop this promising path.

Can you share with us something exciting that you are currently working on?

Renewable energy is a thrilling area by itself. The opportunity to engage with new faces regularly, both internally and externally, brings fresh perspectives and insights. We accompany clients in exploring novel areas and new innovations, and we are rewarded in the tangible impact our solutions and consultancy support has in building a better and more sustainable world through renewable energy.

Currently, Longitude is actively working on interconnectors from Indonesia and Malaysia to Singapore and supporting our sister company OWC on Youde wind farm sub-station offshore Taiwan.

What does the future of energy and oceans look like in Asia Pacific?

Much of Asia Pacific, like the rest of the world, is at a crossroad to divert from fossil fuel dominance. The future will embrace the oceans as a key energy provider, safe and sustainable, for the generations to come.

Finally, why should people come to chat with Longitude at this year’s Energy Taiwan?

Building on our existing expertise, Longitude had been reorganised to further our ambition in offshore wind design and engineering. We invite everyone to come and discuss Longitude’s renewable capabilities, ranging from offshore wind foundations, cable routing and installation, to offshore sub-stations.
