Alejandro Limon | Lead Structural Engineer

Can you give us a glimpse into your day-to-day life at Longitude?

My daily routine at Longitude remains largely consistent, whether I am working from the office or remotely. I begin each day by reviewing project updates and checking emails from clients and colleagues. I prioritize tasks based on their significance and urgency, and if needed, I arrange meetings to ensure alignment on project objectives and address any technical challenges with the team. Following my morning preparations, I focus intently on conducting structural integrity assessments, preparing technical reports, and creating structural drawings for various projects. I am fortunate to work with a supportive team at Longitude, as much of my day revolves around collaborating with colleagues to develop effective solutions for our ongoing projects.

What inspired you to join your profession?

From a young age, I have been captivated by the construction of structures and their ability to endure natural forces. My passion for sketching and drawing naturally guided me toward a career in drafting. My initial experience in the oil and gas sector began at the Keppel AmFELS shipyard in Brownsville, Texas, where my intrigue about design ultimately inspired me to pursue a career in structural engineering.

Can you share with us something exciting that you are currently working on?

We provided support to AltaGas in designing the grillage and sea fastening for the transport of LPG bullets and accumulators from China to Canada. The grillage design posed significant challenges due to constraints related to the loading and unloading processes. The cargo is currently en route.

What does the future of energy and oceans look like in your industry?

Driving sustainability within the oil and gas sector presents a complex yet essential challenge. It involves enhancing technology to reduce environmental impact while simultaneously improving operational efficiency.

Besides work, what do you enjoy most working within the ABL Group?

The open and collaborative environment culture ABL Group offers its colleagues.

Finally, you recently received a Value Award – how do you try to bring those values to your work every day?

This award is a testament to the collective efforts of the entire ABL Group/Longitude team. It exemplifies the strong collaborative spirit that thrives within both ABL and Longitude – two values I hope I bring to our Houston office each day!
