Felipe Amaral | Head of Project Management

Can you give us a glimpse into your day-to-day life at Proper Marine?

My daily routine is dynamic and full of challenges, which makes it both highly engaging and a constant source of learning. I lead the Project Management department – often referred to as the “heart” of Proper Marine – where I guide the team in managing multiple projects of varying complexity at the same time.

In addition to driving continuous improvements in our project management processes, I also work hands-on as coordinator for several strategic contracts, serving clients such as Petrobras, SBM, Altera&Ocyan, and Brava Energia. Another part of my agenda is dedicated to business development, particularly in offshore operations, an area where I bring significant prior experience. And as a member of the executive board, I participate in strategic discussions that shape both current performance and the company’s future direction.

What I value most is the balance between freedom and responsibility: we enjoy autonomy in how we manage our work, but always with the accountability of delivering excellence. That balance motivates me every day to perform at my best.

What inspired you to join your profession?

I chose Naval Engineering almost by chance, but throughout my academic and professional journey I became deeply passionate about the field. The sheer scale of vessels and offshore units, combined with the immense engineering, logistical, and operational challenges they present, has always fascinated me. Being part of this universe, overcoming such complex obstacles, and realizing that our work plays an essential role in advancing society inspires me on a daily basis.

Can you share with us something exciting that you are currently working on?

Right now, I’m coordinating a particularly challenging and exciting project: increasing the People on Board (POB) capacity of fouroffshore units (FPSOs) for a major industry player. The scope is broad, involving multiple engineering disciplines, a large team, hundreds of deliverables, and a very demanding schedule. While Proper Marine has successfully executed similar projects in recent months, this one is larger in scale and deeper in both technical and operational complexity.

The team’s collective effort has been remarkable, and our goal is to deliver this project with excellence – turning it into a true success case for Proper Marine and strengthening our position as a trusted strategic partner for our clients.

Looking ahead, what do you think is key to driving sustainability in your industry?

In our industry, sustainability does not mean eliminating oil as an energy source in the short term – that would create a huge imbalance between global supply and demand. The path forward lies in two directions: energy transition, and transforming the way we operate today.

Three pillars are essential:

  • Efficiency – developing solutions that extend the lifespan of offshore assets and reduce resource consumption.
  • Innovation – investing in technologies that minimize environmental impacts and improve operational safety.
  • Responsibility – executing projects that enable safer and more sustainable decommissioning. This perspective is fully aligned with the ABL Group’s purpose, which embeds environmental, social, and governance (ESG) practices across all aspects of its work, driving the global energy transition.

Besides work, what do you enjoy most about working within ABL Group?

What I enjoy most is the opportunity to connect with people from different countries and cultures. Little by little, we’ve been welcoming colleagues from abroad to Brazil while also sending our team members overseas.

This exchange is enriching not only professionally but also personally – it broadens horizons, brings new perspectives, and creates a true ocean of opportunities. I believe that over time, we’ll see our team grow even further, not only in technical expertise but also as global citizens. Without a doubt, that is one of the greatest legacies of being part of the ABL Group
