Can you give us a glimpse into your day-to-day life at Longitude?
My day-to-day is a balance between technical project work and collaboration. I spend a good part of my time analysing structural and naval architectural challenges, preparing calculations, and reviewing drawings or models. At the same time, there’s a lot of teamwork involved – whether it’s coordinating with colleagues across different offices, aligning on project milestones, or engaging with clients to ensure we’re delivering practical, high-quality solutions.
What inspired you to join your profession?
What inspired me most was the opportunity to turn concepts into reality. I’ve always been fascinated by the way structures endure within the vastness of the sea – withstanding the relentless forces of nature. This fascination matured into a deep passion for applying engineering principles to solve real-world problems, ensuring that vessels are not only structurally sound but also contribute to the advancement of safer and more sustainable maritime operations.
Can you share with us something exciting that you are currently working on?
I’m currently working on the classification of a liftboat, focusing on FEA for hull strength, crane performance, and hull fatigue to ensure compliance with class standards.
It’s a particularly exciting project because it brings together complex engineering challenges and close collaboration across disciplines, while also contributing to the expanding role of lifeboats in offshore wind and sustainable energy.
Looking ahead, what do you think is key to driving sustainability in your industry?
Sustainability in our industry depends on two things: innovation and adaptability. The transition to renewable energy, more efficient vessel designs, and low-carbon operations requires us to embrace modern technologies while also finding smarter ways to repurpose existing assets. Collaboration across stakeholders- engineers, operators, and regulators – is also key to making sustainable practices mainstream.
Besides work, what do you enjoy most about working within ABL Group?
Besides the work itself, I genuinely enjoy the collaborative culture, the versatility of projects, and the supportive work environment at ABL Group.
I also value the opportunity to connect and collaborate with team members from different parts of the world, which makes the experience both enriching and engaging.
